Apprentice Powerline Technician(s) - 2nd Year & Higher

 

Niagara Peninsula Energy Inc. invites resumes for an (eight) 8 month contract position for Apprentice Powerline Technician(s). This position reports directly to the Operations Supervisor and is responsible for assisting in the construction and maintenance of overhead and underground distribution systems and at all times will comply with all policies, procedures and regulations to ensure personal safety and that of others while performing electrical duties in a crew environment.  

Primary duties & responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Assist Lead Hand and/or Journeyperson Powerline Technician in maintenance and construction of overhead and underground power lines and equipment.
  • Assist Lead Hand and/or Journeyperson Powerline Technician in maintenance and construction of overhead and underground power lines and equipment.
  • Assist Lead Hand and/or Journeyperson Powerline Technician in dealing with the public in a courteous manner regarding safety, Corporation policies and procedures, maintenance of service, and disconnection of service.
  • Ensure the safety of co-workers and the public through proper use of safety equipment, and by following the rules, regulations, procedures and techniques in the Powerline Technician Training Manual, the Electrical Utility Safety Rules Book and other pertinent safety rules. 

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Completion of the two (2) year post-secondary diploma in Powerline Technician.
  • Working towards completion of Journeyperson/Powerline Technician Apprenticeship.
  • Greater than one (1) year experience as an Apprentice Powerline Technician is an asset.
  • Must have a valid “D” driver’s licence and a “Z” endorsement and be able to obtain an “A” or restricted “A” licence.
  • Must have knowledge of electrical electronic systems and equipment repair and maintenance in accordance with relevant health and safety practices and regulations.  Competent in the safe operation of hydraulic aerial devices.
