Station Maintenance Supervisor

 

ABOUT THIS ROLE

Burlington Hydro Inc. (“BHI”) is seeking a Station Maintenance Supervisor to join our Operations team. Reporting to the Director of Network Operations, this position is responsible for organizing the daily operations of our Station Maintenance team, prioritizing safety and efficiency. Leading from the front, this position will help steer the execution of Burlington Hydro’s substation system program and collaborate with internal departments to ensure we meet our objectives. This is an on-site position.

                                                                       

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, organize, schedule, assign, and supervise employee and contractor activities involved in the installation and maintenance of the substation system, ensuring alignment with Burlington Hydro's expectations
  • Provide safety leadership to ensure all tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and promptly in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act & Regulations, the Electrical Utility Safety Rules, and Burlington Hydro Policies & Procedures; enforce compliance as necessary
  • Maintain positive labour relations by effectively administering the Collective Agreement and company policies
  • Provide guidance, including setting goals and identifying training needs, conducting performance evaluations, and offering coaching support
  • Direct employees based on information provided by Engineering regarding protection schemes for all control-related equipment in substations and intelligent switches
  • Ensure timely completion of all necessary reports and records, including work progress, vehicle and equipment maintenance, and employee documentation
  • Oversee the correct installation, testing, and maintenance of substation equipment and transformers, prioritizing equipment longevity and service reliability.
  • All other duties as assigned

 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Electrical Engineering Degree or Diploma Certified as a C. Tech or C.E.T. with Ontario Association of Engineering Technicians and Technologists or higher
  • Engineering designation and a registered member of Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) in good standing is an asset
  • 5+ years of Substation Electrician (Protection & Control) experience and a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory role; experience in a unionized environment and/or electricity utility is an asset with a proven record of measurable results
  • Valid class 'G' driver’s license with a clean abstract

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

  • Strong leadership and problem-solving abilities; capable of independent work with a high level of accountability
  • Strong commitment to safety through comprehensive understanding and adherence to safety regulations, policies, work procedures, and legislation  
  • Knowledge of substation protective relay control systems and SCADA/Automation, encompassing installation, testing, and troubleshooting; a blend of education and experience can substitute
  • Openness to learning and embracing new technologies, with a readiness to adapt to changing circumstances
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, coupled with strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset
  • Impeccable safety and attendance track record
  • Proficiency in relevant computer applications
  • Hands-on experience and knowledge in Station Maintenance Electrician tasks
  • Proven dedication to upholding high ethical standards
