Reporting to the Manager, Engineering Services, the Distribution Engineer/EIT is responsible for a wide range of engineering support services that will ensure technical soundness, reliability, safety, and cost effectiveness of the utility and its Electrical Distribution System. Key responsibilities include short- and long-term system planning, engineering studies, technical consultation, providing support to the development and maintenance of operational and capital budgets, process improvement, project management, as well as ensuring compliance to company polices, standards, and all applicable legislated codes.

 

As the successful applicant, you will have the opportunity to be involved with:

  • Equipment, material and design review to ensure they are aligned with industry and OPUCN standards;
  • The maintenance of technical standards and operational design reviews on primary electrical projects;
  • Load forecasting studies and short and long-term system planning;
  • Regulatory compliance audits to ensure the adherence of O’ Reg 22/04;
  • The review of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) applications and ensuring all technical interconnection requirements are met as per applicable standards;
  • Providing assistance in developing the Distribution System Plan and Cost of Service application;
  • Participation in the review/approval of joint use applications;
  • Participation in continuous improvement projects such as implementation of project tracking dashboard, asset management software and estimating and tools;
  • Performing engineering studies, including short circuit, protection & coordination and load flow on Engineering Analysis Software;
  • Undertake reliability investigation and studies, performs analyses, and determines appropriate actions to improve and optimize grid operations and reliability;
  • Providing support in developing and maintaining an Enterprise Wide Engineering Service model capable of providing required services to all facets of the organization;
  • Providing technical knowledge and data to all relevant submissions to the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) to ensure program approval;
  • Liaising with Hydro One and IESO in development of the Regional and Infrastructure Plans;
  • Developing and maintaining positive working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders, including employees, external customers, contractors, and government agencies.

 

WHAT YOU HAVE TO OFFER

  • University degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or related field;
  • Registration with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) OR eligible to be registered in the province of Ontario;
  • Minimum five (5) years of related work experience in engineering, planning, project management, or related field. Preference will be given to candidates with electrical utility experience;
  • Familiarity with QUADRA and Asset Management Technologies will be considered an asset;
  • Knowledge of Technical Interconnection Requirements for Distributed Energy Resources and Battery Energy Storage Systems;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of overhead and underground distribution system and stations related assets along with engineering/construction practices;
  • Experience in system planning, line or substation design, protection and control, SCADA, Arc GIS, project management, budgeting and Ontario Regulation 22/04;
  • Knowledge of applicable Distribution Engineering Standards (USF, CSA, IEEE), Utility Work Protection Code, and Electrical Utility Safety Rules;
  • Ability to write clear and concise technical reports, deliver effective presentations, and answer questions with definitive professional authority;
  • Class “G” Driver license.
