Milton Hydro delivers reliable, safe, and cost-effective electricity to over 43,000 customers throughout the Milton community and is owned by a sole shareholder, the Town of Milton. Milton Hydro is operated at arms-length from the shareholder through the Board of Directors and is regulated by the Ontario Energy Board (OEB).  

The electricity sector is experiencing significant transformation as the world begins to switch from fossil fuels to the ‘electrification of everything’ over the coming decades. Role Summary:

The Board’s goal is to increase diversity and inclusive representation on the Board while ensuring the required mix of knowledge, skills and experience are fulfilled to ensure a continued strong corporate governance model.

Candidates must be a Canadian citizen and a resident of the Town of Milton.  Furthermore, no applicant is eligible to be a director who is less than 18 years of age or is currently insolvent or bankrupt and must act in the best interest of the Corporation. The Candidate should be familiar with Milton Hydro and the Milton Community. Preference will be given to those candidates who have who have an understanding and/or familiarity with the utility sector. Board and Committee meetings are generally held during business hours but may from time-to-time be held outside regular business hours. The Candidate must commit to regular attendance at scheduled meetings and be flexible for ad‐hoc meetings. The applicant must possess a reputation for personal honesty, objectiveness, integrity, common sense, strong interpersonal skills with a questioning/inquiring mind and be able to make sound independent judgments. Preference will be given to those Candidates who work for a business operating in Milton. The position is for a four-year term.

Please highlight related experience within your submission. Candidates should have executive level experience preferably with Corporations whose annual revenues exceed $10M.

Director Qualifications:

An ideal candidate would possess the following skills and experience to qualify for a Director position:

  • Significant business experience and expertise including holding executive level positions in the corporate sector;
  • Prior experience on a “for profit” Board with a Corporation;
  • A strong understanding of Corporate Governance duties as it relates to the Corporation, Shareholder and Stakeholders;
  • Experience in risk assessment and management that includes legal, regulatory, business, operational and safety risk management;
  • Ability to think and direct strategically and to support management in developing and executing on a strategic vision.
  • Understanding of Milton Hydro, challenges and opportunities within the sector and the community that it serves;

The following attributes would be considered an asset:

  • Professional knowledge, certifications, or accreditations in areas of: Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Legal, Human Resources/Employee Relations, Business Development, Marketing and Communications;
  • Energy sector knowledge, including rate regulated utilities or electrical power system experience;
  • Experience with government regulations and regulated entities;
  • An understanding of the non-regulated energy markets, including renewable energy;
  • Sustainability and energy conservation
