Journeyperson Meter Technician

 

ABOUT THIS ROLE

Burlington Hydro Inc. (“BHI”) is seeking a Journeyperson Meter Technician. Reporting to the Manager, Metering and Technical Services, this position is responsible for performing a variety of skilled and technical work in the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and installation of electric meters and associated distribution equipment. This is a full-time unionized position.

                                                                       

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure the safe, efficient, and timely completion of all required tasks in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act & Regulations, the Electrical Utility Safety Rules, and BHI Policies & Procedures
  • Responsible for assisting with the design, planning, coordination, operation and maintenance of all metering systems as per Measurement Canada, ESA, OEB, IESO and other legislative requirements
  • Perform installation, removal and maintenance of all metering equipment and systems, including troubleshooting, meter installation verification and accuracy analysis
  • Interrogate and program meters, as well as troubleshoot communication issues and develop communication solutions for both mesh and point-to-point network connections
  • Respond to and resolve customer complaints related to metering and meter accuracy issues
  • Must be willing and able to perform Standby / On-call duties after hours and on weekends as the first responder to customer no-power or fluctuating power calls
  • Diagnose customer issues and, when necessary, work with other BHI work groups such as Control Room, Powerlines or Stations to resolve customer issues in a timely manner
  • Investigate complex power quality issues and development of PQ reports and corrective actions
  • Maintain applicable documents, records and comprehensive reports as required
  • Provide support to our Billing, Customer Service and Engineering departments as required
  • Communicate effectively and in a professional manner (in-person and electronic) with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, contractors, members of the public, and BHI employees
  • Utilize the BHI Customer Information System and meter data management systems to extract, utilize and review customer information and meter data, as well as update the system with new information, including record of installations and creation of service orders
  • All other duties as assigned

 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Certified Journey Level Meter Technician under the MEARIE Meter Technician program or equivalent
  • Electrical Engineering Technology Diploma program from an accredited Community College or equivalent work experience
  • Possess and maintain a valid G Class Ontario Drivers’ License with a clean abstract

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with all employee levels and the public with a positive approach
  • Possess and maintain a level of physical fitness essential to do the work, including the ability to climb structures and work confidently at heights, work in confined spaces and the willingness and ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions
  • Willingness and ability to perform regular emergency call-out and on-call duties and work under emergency conditions, with the ability to respond to a call-out and be on the work site within one hour of receiving the call
  • Willingness and ability to participate in all Rescue Drills, First Aid training, and other pertinent Health & Safety training
  • Working knowledge of MS Office applications and ability to learn new BHI software and systems
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of pertinent industry regulations, rules, and best practices
  • Energetic and motivated with an excellent safety and attendance record
