PAYROLL FINANCIAL ANALYST

About this Opportunity

As we continue to grow, we are seeking a high performing Payroll Financial Analyst to join our finance team. Reporting to the Manager, Finance with a dotted line to the Director, People & Culture, the Payroll Financial Analyst will be responsible for all the payroll functions in the organization including benefits administration, supporting the finance department from a financial and accounting perspective through month end close activities and providing reliable information and analysis, on a timely basis. This position will also support both the regulated and unregulated operations.

 

As the successful applicant, you will have the opportunity to work on:

 

Payroll related functions:

  • Manage the full cycle payroll process using Ceridian Dayforce for multiple entities including union, non-union, management, and executive staff;
  • Champion payroll software enhancements that currently include onboarding, performance management and training;
  • Perform all related payroll administration including benefit management that include Green Shield, OMERS, MEARIE and Canada Life;
  • Track turnover, absenteeism, overtime and other key performance indicators and communicate to department leads on a monthly or as needed basis;
  • Conduct annual preparation of T4’s and T4A’s as well as monthly/ quarterly/ annual reconciliations for EHT, WSIB, Form 119 for OMERS Employees’ Contributory earnings and Pension contributions;
  • Primary liaison with all staff pertaining to payroll and benefits;

 

Finance related functions:

  • Reconcile payroll related balance sheet account balances and prepare reconciliations on a monthly/ quarterly basis;
  • Prepare payroll related journal entries and ensure bi-weekly payroll is accurately posted to the general ledger and all required modules, in a timely manner;
  • Analyze payroll accounts, including variances to budget, and provide input into budgeting and forecasting process;
  • Maintenance of related systems and ERP modules to ensure accurate record keeping, while meeting regulatory reporting requirements;
  • Ensure timely and accurate month-end close procedures for other accounts beyond payroll, including preparation of journal entries, posting of recurring and non-recurring journals, and the preparation and analysis of monthly account reconciliations; all in accordance with IFRS reporting standards;
  • Support annual external audit process;
  • Assist with reporting requirements to regulatory agencies;
  • Support continuous improvement and productivity initiatives within the overall financial function;
  • Respond and resolve day-to-day accounting related queries/problems from various departments;
  • Assess and document accounting processes and procedures ;
  • Support new software implementations and upgrades;
  • Ensure compliance to legislative, regulatory, accounting and Health & Safety policies, procedures and standards;

 

What you have to offer:

  • Minimum five (5) years experience in a payroll and/or finance/accounting function, Ceridian dayforce experience preferred; accounting experience preferred;
  • Has or working towards PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) or CPA (Chartered Professional Accountants) designation will be considered an asset;
  • Experience in a unionized environment preferred;
  • Experience in a utility environment is an asset;
  • Thorough working knowledge of legislative and regulatory changes impacting payroll;
  • Strong knowledge of payroll regulation and laws, including tax laws and regulations;
  • Working knowledge of IFRS accounting guidelines;
  • Ability to build relationships, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and work with and across various business units within the organization;
  • Advanced Excel skills are essential;
  • Attention to detail and excellent analytical, reasoning and time management skills;
  • Ability to perform detailed reconciliations and numerical analysis;
  • Self-starter; highly motivated and able to work independently; asks for help when required; willing to learn and adapt to new technologies and flexible when situations change;
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines;
