Reporting into the Supervisor of Financial Reporting & Analysis, the Financial Analyst will assist the Finance department in all aspects of general accounting. This will include but is not limited to; assistance with construction work in progress, all reporting aspects of fixed assets and cash management, regular reconciliation and analysis of major general ledger accounts and the preparation of journal entries consistent with accounting principles. The Financial Analyst will also be required to assist in the development of budgets, special projects and other financial documents and reports. Note that this is a temporary opportunity.
Skills/Abilities/Knowledge

  • Intermediate written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced MS Office skills
  • Advanced ERP skills (JD Edwards & Hubble preferred)
  • Advanced time management skills and the ability to manage multiple competing deadlines
  • Solid analytical ability and judgment
  • Intermediate knowledge of accounting principles and reporting requirements (IFRS)
  • Basic knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements as it relates to individual, organizational, and operational requirements.

Experience/Education     

  • 5+ years of experience working on a Finance/Accounting team preferred
  • Industry knowledge and/or working in a regulated environment considered an asset
  • Experience with mergers and system integration considered an asset
  • Post secondary degree in Business or Accounting or equivalent
  • Enrolment in the CPA PEP required, completion of CFE preferred

Major (Primary) Responsibilities

  • Provision of Expert Advice: Assist in the preparation of various special analyses as requested by the Supervisor of Financial Reporting & Analysis or other members of the management team. Participate in special projects as required including ERP & CIS system testing/integration, and financial audits.
  • Finance: Prepare various month end account analyses/reconciliations and journal entries for the Finance department. Responsible for fixed asset reconciliations, maintenance, depreciation calculations and all aspects of reporting. Assist with the day-to-day review and approval of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and General Ledger transactions. Analyze, document and improve Finance department processes. Assist with the preparation of year-end financial statement audit documents and other audits/inspections as required. Perform general accounting duties for affiliates and subsidiaries.
  • Budget: Assist with the budgeting process including data analysis and review.
  • Safety: Support Corporate Occupational Health & Safety initiatives by incorporating safe work practices into daily work routine.
