Field Supervisor/Powerline Technician

DDP Technology is a growing company that specializes in Live C02 Blast cleaning and the inspection and maintenance of high voltage equipment. CO2 dry ice cleaning is rapidly becoming the preferred method of cleaning among the industrial, commercial, utility, and environmental sectors.

Position summary

Reporting to the Manager of Operations, the field supervisor will oversee and coordinate daily operations at sites, liaising between crews and management and ensuring work follows specified plans and regulations. The field supervisor will communicate tasks, address issues, and clarify safety protocols. The field supervisor is responsible for team management, which includes deploying staff effectively, resolving conflicts, and maintaining productivity and morale.

Maintaining a safe and quality-driven work environment is a key responsibility of the field supervisor. They will continuously monitor operations, enforce safety regulations, and implement quality assurance procedures.  The field supervisor regularly reports to upper management to provide status updates, escalate issues when necessary, and offer insights.

Attention to detail – Overseeing diverse tasks and ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards demands keen attention to detail. The ability to spot inconsistencies and potential issues is pivotal in maintaining a safe and effective work environment.

Role and Responsibilities

The Field Supervisor will be responsible for development and delivery of all aspects of Health and Safety with an emphasis in the electrical utility field. The candidate will also be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of field staff. Safety Oriented Responsibilities:

  • Works with manager, internal safety administrator, and Safety consulting representative to implement DDP’s safety program and maintains safety record keeping requirements
  • Facilitate safety meetings as required
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety related legislation, company Policies and Procedures, WSIB and JHSC duties.
  • Authorize, approve, and investigate Incident and Hazard Investigations, Non-Compliance reports (NCR’s) and ensure that appropriate corrective measures are implemented.
  • Provide and organize safety orientation training for new hires
  • Review all accidents, incidents and near misses and work with JHSC and implement corrective action recommendations and follow up as required.
  • Weekly crew field visits
  • Complete crew safety audits

Supervisor Responsibilities:

  • Responsible to attend meetings as required
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of OFFICE Suite (EXCEL, Word)
  • Collaborate with Operations Manager
  • Advises manager of potential problems, work interferences, schedule difficulties, etc.
  • Communicate effectively with trades, Lead Hand Inspectors and ensures that performance, productivity, quality, and safety requirements are met.
  • Weekly scheduling of crews
  • Order required material for various jobs
  • Monitors and executes various inspection contracts and schedules to ensure compliance
  • To update, maintain and occasionally develop new policies and procedures and provide input into the improvement of the same
  • From time to time the successful candidate may be required to fill in for field staff. Duties include but not limited to Co2 cleaning or Lead hand on inspections.
  • Other duties as assigned 

Requirements

  • Certification as a Journeyperson Powerline Technician
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License in good standing, preferably a DZ licence but DZ is not required.
  • Understand and practice EUSR Safety Rules, the Occupational Health & Safety Act, ESA requirements and all other applicable legislation and safe work practices
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment that includes heavy lifting, stretching and pulling, climbing, working at heights and extreme weather conditions

Additional Assets:

  • Any experience with COR
  • Current certificates in First Aid, CPR and WHMIS
  • Experience with CITRIX and ISN
  • JHSC Training
  • Certified safety designation: CHSO (Construction Health and Safety Officer) or NCSO (National Construction Safety Officer).
