What You Will do:

The Manager, Grid Operations & Reliability will play a key role in ensuring the operational excellence and reliability of GrandBridge Energy’s grid infrastructure.  This position oversees the System Control Centre, grid control systems (SCADA, ADMS, OMS) and associated field assets, outage management, substation operations, and reliability improvement initiatives.  The role is critical to maintaining safe, reliable electricity delivery while driving operational efficiency and regulatory compliance.

Reporting to the Acting Director, Grid Operations & Modernization, this role is ideal for a detail-oriented and results-driven leader who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.  You’ll contribute to high-impact initiatives that improve reliability, modernize the grid, and support a sustainable energy future.

Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Provide leadership and oversee the 24/7 Grid Control Centre, ensuring efficient operations, outage management, and timely incident response.
  • Manage the operation and maintenance of substations, ensuring optimal performance, safety, and reliability.
  • Develop and execute substation maintenance programs, including preventive and corrective measures to minimize downtime.
  • Support the design, commissioning, and integration of new substations into the grid infrastructure.
  • Oversee grid control systems (SCADA, ADMS, OMS, FLISR) and devices (switches, reclosers, regulators, capacitors, etc.), to optimize grid operations.
  • Conduct regular reviews and inspections of substation and grid control device assets, identifying opportunities for upgrades and improvements.
  • Develop and implement programs to improve outage performance metrics, working closely with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Enhance grid reliability through advanced system automation, grid-edge solutions, and distributed energy resource integration.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and execute reliability improvement projects.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, operational, and safety requirements, including participation in audits and documentation processes.
  • Lead operational reviews to assess risks, anticipate challenges, and implement process improvements.
  • Direct and perform technical reliability assessments, load flow analyses, and interconnection studies to ensure system integrity and seamless integration.
  • Develop and manage operational budgets, aligning expenditures with organizational objectives and reliability goals.
  • Provide mentorship and leadership to the Grid Operations & Reliability team, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.

What You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation with Professional Engineers of Ontario is preferred.
  • Minimum of five to seven years of experience in utility operations, grid reliability, or a related field, including managing substation operations.
  • Leadership experience in managing teams and project management is required.
  • Proficiency with advanced grid technologies, including SCADA, ADMS, OMS, and FLISR, as well as substation-specific systems.
  • Strong understanding of Ontario’s electricity landscape, regulatory requirements, and reliability standards, including knowledge of ESA, OESC, UWPC and IESO Reliability reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute operational strategies that improve grid performance and reliability.
  • Experience with substation asset management, including lifecycle planning, upgrades, and maintenance.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with experience in cross-departmental collaboration.
  • Experience managing budgets, ensuring cost-effective operations, and delivering results.
  • Proficiency in operational tools and software (e.g., MS Office, GIS, SCADA applications).
