DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Test, inspect, maintain, and commission distributions system automation devices and communication devices and networks, including electronic relays, transducers, metering, wiring, SCADA, radios, fibre networks, RTUs and pole and pad-mounted automated switches etc.
  • Prepare and maintain logic diagrams for all automation devices, including electronic relays used on the distribution system. Install and maintain protection and coordination settings for all automation devices.
  • Perform functional and operational tests according to manufacturers’ specifications and industry standards to verify proper operation and functionality of the distribution system automation devices and protection schemes.
  • Provide support to other staff members to complete installation projects related to distribution system automation, substation protection and control and communication devices.
  • Modify existing wiring to adapt to new SCADA and other automation devices within the distribution system.
  • Investigate, diagnose, analyze and report information and data from automation device failures, faults, breakdowns and improper functioning, including electronic relays, transducers, metering, wiring, SCADA and communication devices.
  • Interrogate automation devices and download information as required for the purpose of diagnosing and troubleshooting distribution system abnormal occurrences and provide support in interpreting information from automation devices.
  • Inspect all automation devices on a periodic and scheduled basis and maintain detailed equipment information records and drawings, in both electronic and hard copy formats.
  • Direct and supervise the work of external contractors for any automation device related work.
  • Ensure the security and safe operation of any automation devices used on the distribution system Ensure the security and safety of any automation devices stored for future use on the distribution system.
  • Install, operate and maintain all software programs associated with automation devices, including electronic relays such as SEL, ABB, Cooper, GE, S&C and Ion
  • Inspect and maintain automation device testing equipment, ensuring a high degree of testing equipment availability throughout the Elexicon service territory.
  • Perform all duties in strict compliance with Elexicon and industry established safety rules, procedures, and policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KEY SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Extensive experience with electrical distribution systems, solid knowledge of protection and control, distribution automation, SCADA and communication systems
  • Experience with computer applications for industrial operations e.g. RTUs, PLCs; & IEDs and knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Experience with communication systems including radio, fiber optics, etc. plus communication protocols e.g. TCP/IP, DNP 3.0
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP, fibre, Ethernet, and RF communications
  • Ability to use and operate hand tools and test equipment relevant to the position.
  • Familiarity with rules and regulations such as EUSA, Electrical Safety Authority (ESA), and Utility Work Protection Code (UWPC)
  • Ability to work at heights.
  • 309A Construction and Maintenance Electrician License is an asset.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 

  • 3-year post-secondary diploma in Electrical or Electronics Engineering Technology
  • Eligible for O.A.C.E.T.T. designation as a Certified Engineering Technologist in the Province of Ontario in the Electrical discipline
  • MEARIE Journeyperson Sub-Station Electrician Certificate
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience
  • Must hold a valid Class "G" license with good driving record.
