Collections Supervisor

Position Summary

Reporting to the Supervisor, Customer Service & Billing, the Collections Supervisor will be responsible for overseeiing the daily operations of collections, and ensuring timely recovery of outstanding accounts receiveable while maintaining positive customer relationships. This role involce implementing collection strategies, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, and working closely with internal departments to resolve disputes or escalated issues.

As the successful applicant, you will have the opportunity to be involved with:

  • Handle and resolve escalated customer disputes, including high bills and service disconnections;
  • Receive, interpret, and summarize customer inquiries and legal requests to resolve outstanding billings;
  • Negotiate and manage settlement agreements for aged accounts receivable;
  • Review and process service order applications;
  • Process bankruptcies in CIS and follow up with trustees;
  • Manage monthly write-offs and ensure accurate account closures;
  • Enter and update data in Harris billing software, including deposits, payment arrangements, payments, and credit check requests;
  • Initiate account adjustments as needed;
  • Verify and record information on certificates of arrears; handle related mail and fax communications;
  • Review accounts for potential disconnection due to nonpayment and notify appropriate parties;
  • Negotiate payment terms with customers who have been disconnected for nonpayment and authorize service reconnection;
  • Collaborate with the EMS and Power Assist teams to manage service disconnections and reconnections;
  • Serve as the liaison with collection agencies regarding final bills;
  • Oversee the performance of collection agencies to ensure optimal outcomes and develop a "championship model" for success;
  • Follow up on account details, including vacant properties, occupant changes, broken payment terms, damaged services, and other relevant information for coordination with other departments;
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

What You Have To Offer

  • A minimum of two (2) years of hands-on experience in fast-paced customer service environments;
  • Previous experience with collections and cash-handling will be considered an asset;
  • Knowledge of Harris billing systems will be considered an asset;
  • Strong knowledge of utility billing practices;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks;
  • Flexibility to respond to frequently changing priorities;
  • Exceptional organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills;
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills with the ability to exercise patience, tact, diplomacy and discretion;
  • Ability to work with and present to varying seniority levels, including staff, managers and external partners;
