Metering Technician / Electrical Engineering Technician

Lakefront Utility Services Inc. (LUSI) is currently searching for a highly motivated and detail-oriented Metering Technician/ Electrical Engineering Technologist to support distribution system planning, project implementation and metering operations. This dual-role position involves providing technical support for engineering projects, system upgrades, and regulatory compliance, as well as the installation, maintenance, testing, and calibration of metering equipment.

Overall Responsibilities

Metering Duties:

  • Install, test, troubleshoot, and maintain single-phase and polyphase electrical meters, including smart meters and demand meters.
  • Perform advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) system maintenance, upgrades, and diagnostics.
  • Conduct meter programming, verification, and calibration in accordance with Measurement Canada and IESO standards.
  • Investigate and resolve metering issues, including power quality concerns and suspected energy diversion/tampering.
  • Maintain accurate meter records, documentation, and reporting for audits and compliance.
  • Assist in the deployment of time-of-use, interval, and net metering systems.

Engineering Technologist Duties:

  • Support the design, analysis, and maintenance of the electrical distribution system (up to 27.6 kV).
  • Assist with system studies including load flow, voltage drop, short-circuit analysis, and asset management.
  • Support capital and maintenance projects including the installation of transformers, switchgear, and automation devices.
  • Collaborate with field crews, contractors, and engineers to ensure safe and efficient project execution.
  • Prepare technical reports, specifications, and assist with regulatory filings (e.g., OEB, ESA, Measurement Canada)
  • Other job duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Electrical Engineering Technologist diploma (3-year program) from an accredited college.
  • Certification or eligibility for certification with OACETT (C.Tech or CET).
  • Minimum 2–5 years of relevant experience in utility metering and/or electrical distribution systems.
  • Knowledge of Measurement Canada regulations, ESA codes, and utility metering standards.
  • Familiarity with metering systems (Itron, Landis+Gyr, or similar), AMI networks, and SCADA integration.
  • Strong understanding of electrical theory, power measurement, and distribution system components.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Valid Ontario G driver’s license with clean abstract.

Wage:

 

As this is a union position salary range is $32.17 – $45.96 (dependent on qualifications) per hour commensurate with the LUSI’s Collective Agreement with CUPE Local 25.  Lakefront Utilities offers a rewarding working environment, benefits package, pension plan and opportunities for development.
