Senior Network Engineer

Bluewater Power Distribution Corporation is the founding member of the Bluewater Power Group of Companies, headquartered in Sarnia Ontario. A progressive local distribution company, Bluewater Power distributes power to over 35,000 customers in six Sarnia-Lambton communities.  The Bluewater Power Group of Companies also includes the following independent market driven private Corporations: Electek Power Services Inc., Bluewater Power Services Corporation, Bluewater Power Renewable Energy Inc., and Bluewater Regional Networks Inc. 

The Senior Network Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, and support of network infrastructure across the Bluewater Power Group of Companies, including LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, and point-to-point wireless systems. This role will also play a key part in telecom and fibre internet circuit design and support for an affiliated fibre internet services company. The successful candidate will bring strong technical expertise in network engineering, wireless systems, fibre circuits, and cybersecurity practices, and will be equally comfortable collaborating with internal stakeholders and engaging with external customers in both technical and advisory capacities.

This is a permanent, full-time position.

Duties include:

Network Design & Implementation

  • Design, configure, and deploy LAN, WAN, managed wireless networks to support enterprise operations and affiliate services.
  • Lead the design and implementation of point-to-point and point-to-multipoint wireless systems for remote site connectivity.
  • Architect resilient network topologies ensuring performance, scalability, and high availability.
  • Plan and implement network expansion and upgrades to support business growth and modernization initiatives.

Network Operations & Support

  • Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise network performance and availability using advanced diagnostic tools.
  • Provide tier 3 support for escalated network incidents, ensuring timely resolution and root cause analysis.
  • Maintain detailed network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and change logs.
  • Collaborate with IT and OT (Operations Technology) teams to ensure secure and reliable interconnectivity across environments.

Telecom & Fibre Internet Engineering

  • Design, configure and support fiber optic network circuits, including route planning, capacity management, sales team support and provisioning.
  • Engage in telecom carrier coordination, fibre circuit installations, and performance monitoring for affiliate fibre services.
  • Support customer-facing network deployments and troubleshoot connectivity issues for external clients.
  • Contribute to service delivery designs and network infrastructure supporting fibre internet products, and enterprise telecom.

Cybersecurity & Compliance

  • Implement and maintain network security best practices, including firewalls, segmentation, VPNs, and intrusion prevention.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity and compliance teams to ensure adherence to corporate and regulatory frameworks (e.g., OEB Cybersecurity Framework, SOC 2).
  • Regularly review and harden network configurations against emerging threats.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work cross-functionally with internal business units, IT, and affiliate service teams to align network strategy with organizational goals.
  • Interface directly with customers and partners to design and support connectivity solutions.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members and technical staff.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Degree in Computer Engineering, Network Technology, or a related field from an accredited educational institution.
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in network engineering or equivalent technical role.
  • Experience in the design and management of enterprise and carrier-grade network infrastructure.
  • Experience working in hybrid IT/OT or utility/telecom environments considered an asset.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid class “G” driver’s license

Salary: $91,000 – $116,000 (for qualified candidates)
