Utility Work Protection Code Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY:

The UWPC Coordinator will be responsible for assessing the health and safety training needs and providing a high level of health and safety training/programs to both member and non-member firms. The duties will include, but are not limited to scheduling, assist in the development, delivering, responding to clients questions, recommending and evaluating external trainers, and audits UWPC programs for clients within Ontario and, at times, nationally and internationally for IHSA. Act as the liaison with Hydro One Coordinator. The UWPC Coordinator reports directly to the Manager, Powerline Apprenticeship and Training.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT:   It is a term and condition for the granting of employment in this position and it will be a term and condition of continuing employment in this position that the individual’s permanent residence is within one hundred (100) kilometre radius of 5345 Creekbank Road, Mississauga, ON, L4W 5L5.

SALARY:   $121,635.06– $143,065.43

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver and facilitate health and safety programs and presentations that adhere to current federal and/or provincial legislation and support the policies, procedures, objectives and vision of IHSA to a variety of audiences (senior management, supervisors, front line workers and general audiences). Work closely with the UWPC Administrator to schedule, consult and support member and non-member firms to ensure certifications are maintained and application for the UWPC is complete and accurate. Deliver and Instruct UWPC Core and Re-Certification programs to both member and non-member firms. Complete, file and maintain accurate participant reports, grade tests and submit evaluations for current individual qualifications.
  • Respond and provide ongoing support, clarification, advice and guidance regarding UWPC and liaise with Hydro One regarding application of the UWPC and act as the lead person representing the Utility Sector for any revisions to the UWPC. Consult and work with stakeholders, community colleges, member and non-member firms, management, various trade sectors and employer associations to build strong strategic partnerships to assess, identify and address their training needs. Assist in the development of specialized and customized programs and course material to meet their needs.
  • Provide internal and external customer service to peers through out the organization, as well as to members and strategic partners. Provide guidance, information training or instruction to co-workers, member firms employees supervising job and work sites during program delivery.
  • Perform UWPC firm system audits upon request. Schedule and manage course delivery timetables at client locations. Oversee and schedule time to audit all external trainers instructing UWPC for accuracy and up to date Rule changes. Resolve challenges, continually monitor the effectiveness of existing programs and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Develop and update all UWPC Training Manuals, course material for Core, Re-certifications, E-learning Overview and Train the Trainer. Create practical scenarios, pre-test material and act as the representative for all member and non-member firms needs when reviewing the UWPC Rule book with Hydro One every 5 years.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of post-secondary education required.
  • 10 years related experience in the Utility and/or Generation Sector of practical application of the Utility Work Protection Code and 5 years of experience performing UWPC audits required.
  • Skilled trade designation 434A Journeyperson Powerline Technician; or System Control Operator Certificate required.
  • Certification in the Utility Work Protection Code (UWPC) required.
  • Valid Ontario G Class driver’s license required.
  • First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) certifications required.
  • Advanced knowledge of the Utility Work Protection Code required.
  • Qualified Instructor of UWPC for both System Operator and Lines required.
  • Knowledge of auditing principles, methods, and standards required.
  • JH&SC certification and EUSR certificate considered an asset.
  • Front line supervisory and knowledge of program development, delivery, adult training and principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of the Health and Safety management systems, programs, services and current provincial and federal legislation.
  • Proficiency with computers, internet and applicable software (such as Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
  • 75% minimum interview score required for consideration.
