 Distribution Supervisor

A vacancy exists in the Operations Department at our Country Squire location for the position of Distribution Supervisor 

Reporting to the Distribution Superintendent, this position is responsible for supervision of construction, operations and maintenance of the overhead and underground electrical distribution system at all voltages. The incumbent is accountable for the direction of line crews in planned and unplanned situations to perform assigned capital and maintenance job functions. The incumbent is also responsible for the troubleshooting and restoration of electrical power during system interruptions and ensuring that all work is completed safely and in compliance with all established policies, regulations and work standards.

  • Advanced verbal, written and communication skills and the ability to deal with employees, customers and stakeholders in a courteous businesslike manner
  • Intermediate skills in MS Office
  • Intermediate project management and organizational skills
  • Intermediate ability to apply critical thinking skills, troubleshoot technical challenges, collect & analyze data and draw valid conclusions
  • Intermediate ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals and to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Intermediate ability to analyze problems and resolve conflicts
  • Intermediate ability to plan, execute, administer capital and/or operational projects and mitigate associated risk
  • Ability to foster strong business relationships with internal staff, customers, developers, authorities, and other stakeholders
  • Ability to respond to safety and technical issues expediently and consistent with company policy
  • Ability to provide strong leadership to motivate and direct work to ensure consistency with the objectives of the organization 

Knowledge/Education     

  • Graduate of Mearie Powerline Technician School or equivalent.
  • Certification of Qualification for Powerline Technician (PLT) Ontario Trade Code 434A
  • Advanced knowledge of IHSA Electrical Utility Safety Rules
  • Advanced knowledge of the Utility Work Protection Code, EUSA rules, ESA Distribution Safety Regulations, Regulation 22/04 and all other applicable government regulations
  • Advanced knowledge of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems
  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical construction tools, equipment and vehicles used in the line construction trade
  • Advanced knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements as it relates to individual, organizational and operational requirements
  • Intermediate knowledge of the contents and administration of the collective agreement
  • Basic knowledge of the Employment Standards Act 

Experience

  • 10 plus years in a Powerline Technician role
  • 2 - 3 years’ experience in an Acting Line Supervisor role considered asset.
  • Valid Class “AZ” or “AZ Restricted” Driver’s License
  • Lift Truck Operator Certificate considered an asset 

Major (Primary) Responsibilities

  • Provision of Expert Advice: Counsel and confer with the Distribution Superintendent on day-to-day issues that may have an impact on performance standards.
  • Budgeting: Provide information and analysis to assist in the preparation of the annual capital expenditures and/or maintenance budgets and ensure that the program operates within the approved budget.
  • Performance Management: Review work schedules, hire, manage performance, conduct reviews, and ensure that training and development are available to enhance performance and knowledge level of staff. Ensure compliance with corporate policies, procedures, established best practices, and relevant regulatory rules and regulations. Provide leadership, mentoring and coaching to the department on a daily basis including performance reviews, feedback, attendance, rules of personal conduct, assistance with labour relations issues and discipline, while maintaining a team environment.
  • Management: Ensure that the daily work assignments are completed efficiently and according to all work standards. Review work and reports for accuracy and ensure issues are resolved on a timely basis. Coordinate the planning, organization and scheduling of planned work. Ensure that staff has the appropriate tools, materials and equipment to perform daily assignments. Recognize and undertake the responsibility to seek continuous improvement, professional knowledge and skills relevant to the position and the department to maintain a skilled and motivated 
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Ensure employees and contractors follow corporation rules, policies, appropriate safety rules and government regulations. Liaise with other departments to plan work, develop schedules and confirm required permits, notices and equipment/materials are available and aligned with project start dates.
  • Labour Relations: Ensure that the Collective Agreement is administered in a fair and reasonable manner and promote a positive culture for union/management relations. Ensure labour relations matters are dealt with expediently and in a fair and consistent manner. Resolve grievances as they arise. Ensure compliance with HR policies and legislative requirements.
  • Safety: Provide leadership for Occupational Health & Safety activities for the organization to effectively promote a culture of health, safety and loss prevention. Conduct safety visits and participate in monthly safety meetings. Complete accident/incident reports and ensure corrective actions are executed.
  • Cybersecurity: Ensure staff complete their cybersecurity awareness training. Monitor, correct and report inappropriate online behaviour. Complete the regularly scheduled cybersecurity awareness training. Maintain an awareness of the sensitivity of the data within the work environment. Keep passwords private. Report changes in user status. Report suspected security violations. Follow staff reporting structure to communicate if any concerns/issues/risks are identified. Follow physical security protocols. 

Salary Range: $105,630 - $132,038 per year
