A vacancy exists in the Engineering department at our Victoria St location for the position of  Design Technologist. 

The Design Technologist is responsible for the preparation and design of construction projects in one of three areas: customer service connections, overhead or underground distribution systems and performing all associated project management functions until the completion of construction. 

Skills/Abilities

  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills and the ability to deal with fellow employees and the general public in a courteous manner
  • Advanced time management and planning skills with the ability to multitask and adopt to changing industry standards
  • Advanced problem solving, critical thinking and troubleshooting skills within known procedures and precedents
  • Advanced project management skills

Intermediate MS365 and AutoCAD/AUD skills and the use of corporate software 

Knowledge/Education

  • Post secondary diploma in Engineering Technology preferably in the electrical discipline
  • CET Designation
  • Advanced knowledge of AC electrical theory, Construction and Surveying Methods
  • Advanced knowledge of Utility Construction Standards, Enova Metering Specifications, relevant Canada Standards Association Standards, ESA 22/04 Regulations, USF Standards and Enova Conditions of Service
  • Intermediate knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements as it relates to individual, organizational and operational requirements
  • Basic knowledge of industry regulations and standards (Ontario Electric Safety Code, Ontario Building Code)
  • Basic knowledge of structural engineering theory
  • Class G drivers’ licence

Experience

  • 1-3 years’ related experience 

Major (Primary) Responsibilities

  • Prepare designs and construction drawings for designated area in accordance with established standards and industry best practices.
  • Prepare comprehensive project estimates, develop work schedules and create material lists ensuring timely ordering of materials aligned with project timelines.
  • Develop base plans and document installed infrastructure using survey equipment.
  • Obtain required permits, consent and approvals for a project prior to the start of construction and prepare correspondence regarding the project as required.
  • Monitor and control project progress to meet milestones and provide regular status updates.
  • Engage and coordinate with stakeholders including municipalities, authorities, customers and internal teams.
  • Oversee material allocation, scope deviations and change orders and prepare cost variance reports. 
  • Inspect installed assets before closure of the project, complete project close activities and update engineering records.
  • Prepare Offers to Connect, Subdivision Agreements, Connection Agreements and process payments from customers.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of design guide documents and engineering standards.
  • Inspect civil contractors and completed work to ensure Enova standards are met and complete Construction Verification documents for underground civil projects.
  • Provide guidance and training to colleagues and students within area of expertise.
  • Support Corporate Occupational Health & Safety initiatives by incorporating safe work practices into daily work routine and reporting any unsafe conditions or work practices.
  • Complete the regularly scheduled cybersecurity awareness training. Maintain an awareness of the sensitivity of the data within the work environment. Keep passwords private. Report changes in user status. Report suspected security violations. Follow staff reporting structure to communicate if any concerns/issues/risks are identified. Follow physical security protocols.

Salary Range: $36.04 – $46.72 per hour
