  UTILITY ARBORIST

 

London Hydro has an exciting vacancy for a skilled and safety-focused Utility Arborist to join our Forestry team. This is an excellent opportunity to work outdoors in a dynamic environment, helping to maintain the safe and reliable operation of the electrical distribution system through vegetation management and line-clearing activities. Reporting to the General Line Supervisor, or designate, the successful candidate will perform tree maintenance and vegetation control work on road allowances, in parks, and on flood plains while working in close proximity to energized hydro infrastructure. Knowledge and experience in line-clearing operations are required, and a Utility Arborist Certificate will be considered a valuable asset.   

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Work in close proximity to energized hydro lines.
  • Trim, prune, cable and brace trees and/or perform minor tree surgery to correct problems, eliminate hazards and improve aesthetic appearance.
  • Chip and clean up brush and debris.
  • Climb trees using spurs and ropes when necessary.
  • Remove dead or badly decayed trees, including restoration of work site after completion of project.
  • Remove, cut, and haul fallen and damaged limbs caused by inclement weather, etc..
  • Work in close proximity to heavy traffic on a regular basis.
  • Work requires heavy physical effort on a regular basis.
  • Work from aerial devices on a regular basis.
  • Comply with all Occupational Health & Safety Act requirements, IHSA E&US rules, and London Hydro Environmental, Health & Safety policies and work practices; wear required PPE; report all injuries and near misses immediately; and perform all duties in a manner that protects your health and safety and that of others.
  • Perform other duties related to the above job purpose. 

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

  • Successful completion of Grade 12 PLUS specialized trades training or equivalent.
  • Driver’s License Class DZ (a driver's license and an ability to drive is required in order to discharge the essential duties of the position).
  • Knowledge and experience in line clearing operations.
