About this Opportunity 

Reporting to the Estimating Manager, the Lead Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, detailed, and competitive cost estimates for projects within the construction and utility infrastructure sectors. This includes evaluating material, labour, equipment, and subcontractor costs to support successful project bidding and execution. The Lead Estimator collaborates closely with clients, vendors, engineers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders to gather information, assess project requirements, and develop comprehensive estimates that align with project objectives and company standards. 

Vacancy Type: Permanent Full Time

Salary Range: $75,000 - $90,000

Location: This in-person role is located in Scugog, Ontario

Responsibilities: 

  • Review project drawings, tenders, specifications, addendums, and quotation requirements to understand scope and risks.
  • Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates by interfacing with operations, vendors, engineers and subcontractors
  • Oversee the entire bid lifecycle process, assign work to Junior Estimators and review and validate all estimates for accuracy and completion
  • Establish and maintain the tendering and quotation process
  • Identify risks, develop contingency costs and propose cost saving alternatives
  • Maintain a directory of suppliers and subcontractors
  • Assist in overall project consideration and planning sessions to provide estimating input
  • Liaise and communicate effectively with the estimating, project management and operations team
  • Attend site visits as required

WHAT YOU HAVE TO OFFER

  • Five (5) years of experience in cost estimating in the construction or utility infrastructure industry, including estimating cost of materials, labour and equipment for projects from RFP/RFQ/quotations
  • Diploma or Degree in Civil, Electrical or Construction Management or a combination of education and field experience within the Construction or Utility Infrastructure Industry
  • Advanced experience using Microsoft Office, including the ability to create reports, documents, presentations and spreadsheets in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Project.
  • Ability to understand drawings, scheduling and tendering processes
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi- task
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with stakeholders
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required
