About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Operations Supervisor – Technical Services, the Protection and Control Technician will install, commission and maintain SCADA, Load Control, Distribution Automation, Substation Protective Relaying-Metering Control and the Communication Networks for these systems. They will participate in the planning and design of the above systems. They will also participate in the analysis and studies related to the technical and economic feasibility of Utility projects. The successful applicant will maintain a professional working relationship with customers and perform protective device coordination studies.

Seeking the following qualifications:

  • Three-year Electrical Technology diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong planning, coordination, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Minimum five years of experience in relaying, metering, control, and communications systems, preferably in an electrical utility environment.
  • Working knowledge of utility distribution systems, equipment, construction materials, and work methods.
  • Proficiency with electrical and optical test equipment used for protection, metering, power quality, communications, and fiber optics.
  • Experience with Windows Server, SQL Server, Microsoft 365, and engineering applications such as AutoCAD, Survalent SmartVU, STC Explorer, AcSELerator QuickSet, Milsoft, CYME, and related utility analysis software.
  • Experience calculating and applying protection relay settings for electromechanical, electronic, and PLC-based relays.
  • Strong troubleshooting and repair skills for electrical, electronic, and communications systems.
  • Knowledge of serial and Ethernet communications, including protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, TCP/IP, and related standards.
  • Valid Class G driver's license with the ability to perform frequent field work.
