ERTH Power is pleased to announce an immediate opening for a Powerline Technician, located at our Ingersoll Operations Centre.   This position is open to both Journeypersons or minimum 2nd year apprentice candidates.

The hourly rate for his role is $30.29 start progressing to $50.48 depending on qualifications.

Position Summary

The Powerline Technician reports to the Line Supervisor and is responsible for constructing and maintaining all overhead and underground distribution lines and associated apparatus.  This position will have responsibility to be on-call and must be available to respond to 24-hour emergency situations within the time mandates set out by the Ontario Energy Board and the Company

General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform all types of work related to the erection, re-arrangement, maintenance and removal of all overhead and underground transmission and distribution power lines of all classes and voltage up to and including 27.6KV
  • Work live voltages with live line tools and/or appropriate protective equipment on energized circuits up to and including 27KV
  • All aspects of underground circuits, pole line construction and maintenance
  • Work in close proximity to heavy traffic and high voltage equipment while operating tools and equipment: aerial boom equipment, radial boom truck, tension equipment and all hand operated tools
  • Inspect electrical installations performed by outside contractors in adherence with Electrical Safety Authority and ERTH Power standards and all other applicable legislation
  • Minor Tree trimming as required
  • Standby on-call duty as required and as outlined in the Collective Agreement
  • Carry out switching instructions, written or oral and apply for hold off permits when necessary

Required Qualifications

  • Must possess (or currently working towards) a Powerline Technician Certificate of Qualification (Minimum 2nd Year) or Interprovincial Red Seal Certification (or equivalent) and a Grade 12 High School Diploma
  • Successful completion of a Powerline Technician College Program is considered an asset
  • Valid Ontario Class DZ or AZ-Restricted Driver’s License in good standing
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents (e.g., drawings, switching orders, procedures) and perform accurate mathematical calculations required for field operations, including measurements, clearances, and load-related calculations
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment that includes working at heights and extreme weather conditions
