Regulatory Accountant

 

Kitchener-Wilmot Hydro Inc. is a local distribution company that is responsible for distributing electricity to 95,000 homes and businesses within the City of Kitchener and Township of Wilmot. 

The Regulatory Accountant will ensure the proper alignment of distribution rate setting initiatives with financial planning, budgeting and investment activities. This position is responsible for the accurate, timely and effective analysis of capital expenditures, operating and maintenance expenses and regulatory financial results, and will support reporting to both external regulatory authorities and internal users.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Supports the creation of rate applications and other related regulatory submissions 
  • Creating and populating complex financial and statistical models
  • Supports MIFRS & IFRS financial reporting requirements related to capital expenditures and operating, maintenance and administrative expenses and regulatory results including variance analysis of actual to budget, forecast and year over year
  • Supports the introduction of new or modified regulatory-related business processes including employee training
  • Supports departmental projects and key initiatives and assists in providing regulatory or financial expertise on special projects as required
  • Provides support and works cooperatively with other internal groups regarding regulatory accounting, compliance. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Accounting or a related discipline
  • CMA/CGA/CA/CPA designation or pursuing
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an accounting / financial control capacity with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a regulated industry
  • Experience in project management, including the development of project plans, tracking project performance, communication and collaboration with various departments and reporting progress
  • Experience in JD Edwards is an asset
  • Knowledge of the electricity regulated industry or equivalent experience with emphasis on rate base and cost allocation methodologies 
  • Solid problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to provide practical and/or innovative solutions to technical issues
  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
