We are currently seeking an energetic individual who possess these qualities to join our team as an:

Engineering Technologist – Electrical

Reporting to the Supervisor, Construction Management, the Engineering Technologist is accountable for the design, planning, estimating, and preparation of bills of material and work orders for hydro distribution projects. Projects include overhead and underground electrical distribution design, streetlight systems and new electrical service design.

Duties include:

  • Designing, estimating and preparing bill of materials and work orders for various projects including overhead & underground electrical distribution design (for new and rebuild projects) and new electrical service design (residential, commercial, industrial);
  • Schedule and coordinate assigned projects
  • Prepare and administrate overhead and underground construction contracts
  • Assist in preparation of capital budget proposals
  • Prepare technical reports (voltage drop/line losses calculations, fault current analysis and protection coordination, power quality analysis, line tensions and cable pulling calculations)
  • Assist with design clarifications, concerns, revisions or recommendations at the design stage or during project construction
  • Assist with investigation and development of installation standards and materials specification

 

Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • 3 year Electrical Engineering Technology Diploma
  • Registered as a Certified Engineering Technologist with O.A.C.E.T.T.
  • Valid Class ‘G’ Ontario Driver’s Licence with an excellent driving record
  • 3 to 5 years relevant experience in overhead and underground distribution system design, planning, budgeting and construction contract administration
  • Strong analytical thinking skills
  • High level of technical competence in design work and project management
  • Good knowledge of electrical theory, good understanding and familiarity with power system operations, practices and installation standards
  • Competent user of standard office computer software applications
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to interact with others in ways that advance the work of the organization with a track record of developing trust, mutual respect and cooperative relationships
  • Strong commitment to continuous improvement principles
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to pay attention to details with focus on accuracy
  • Excellent safety and attendance record
