Project Manager

Oshawa PUC Energy Services Inc. (OPUCES) is a subsidiary of Oshawa Power and Utilities Corporation which has projects located across Ontario including in the Durham Region and Regent Park & Moss Park in Toronto. Oshawa PUC Energy Services Inc. develops, constructs and operates distributed energy generation projects in Ontario including district energy systems. The District Energy System (DES) produces high-efficiency heating and cooling for multiple residential and commercial buildings at the neighborhood scale. The DES consists of a heating and cooling centre and a thermal network of pipes connecting groups of buildings. OPUCES currently builds and operates multiple DES and Combined Heat and Power (CHP) generation projects in Toronto and Durham region and has plans to continue expanding across Ontario and Canada. In addition, OPUCES owns and operates number of solar generation projects in Ontario. 

OPUCES also plans to expand into distributed generation utilizing renewable and clean resources (such as wind, solar, biogas and natural gas powered CHP) to pursue the expansion of our “clean and green” distributed generation assets. 

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Apply project management processes and expertise and manage construction projects from conceptualization to completion.
  • Design and review electrical and mechanical control system designs for existing and new projects.
  • Assist with day to day operations and troubleshooting of CHP and district energy system with routine fault finding and repair operations.
  • Ensure drawings and plans are understood and implemented correctly by identifying and addressing errors and/or omissions before any impact to the commissioning schedule.
  • Design PLC/SCADA to control new and existing projects and integrate into existing electrical and mechanical control system infrastructure.
  • Manage and execute the programming and commissioning of systems including CHP, boilers, chillers, and any other mechanical and electrical systems implemented.
  • Integrate the connection of various projects at different geographical locations to central SCADA location.
  • Design control panels, network infrastructure, and HMI SCADA systems to support existing and new projects.
  • Design and implement control system including software programming of PLC system and building automation system.
  • Identify potential deficiencies in design and implementation and plan and execute remedial activities to improve efficiency and up-time availability. 
  • Implement software (PLC and HMI) upgrades to correct mistakes or improve functionality.
  • Execute the design and control of energy transfer stations for district energy systems.
  • Correctly diagnose a mechanical, electrical, hydraulic or pneumatic problems and expedite its repair
  • Involved with the creation of proper documentation and provide training to DES and CHP site operators 

QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Education in Electrical Technician / Technologist or Diploma of Collegial studies in Mechanical Technology or relevant technical experience
    • Journeyman Red Seal Electrician license
    • Minimum of 7-10 years’ experience with the design of electrical and mechanical control systems
    • Demonstrated project management experience and ability to develop and deliver project results on time, to cost, and with quality
    • Experience with combined heat and power plant operation and control principles
    • Comprehensive technical knowledge and experience directly related to district energy, power generation systems including mechanical, electrical, civil, structural and industrial technical disciplines, as well as SCADA and PLC system programming related to plant operation
    • Effective decision making skills through the use of sound judgement and technical knowledge
    • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills to liaise with various stakeholders
    • Must have knowledge of all applicable construction and safety standards, codes, and legislation
    • Excellent trouble shooting skills to address system issues in a timely manner
    • Ability to work any shift, including evenings and weekends
    • Must have valid ‘G’ driving license in the province of Ontario
