Position Purpose:
Monitors and controls the distribution of electrical power in the distribution network to maintain a reliable supply of electricity to the customer and ensures the safe and efficient performance of work on the network.

Responsibilities:
To maintain Alectra - Horizon’s electrical distribution network through:
1. Coordinating, scheduling and directing power loads on substations, transformer station feeders and generation facilities to meet distribution demands during daily operation, system outages, repairs and the importing or exporting of power.
2. Dispatching, calling out extra field crews and directing workers to locate and isolate network problems and assisting workers in restoring power in the most efficient manner.
3. Arranging safe work protection for workers working on or in proximity to the distribution network and assisting maintenance workers during routine system testing.
4. Updating the circuit configuration on the System Control and Data Acquisition system as new plant is installed and energized or switchgear status changes.
5. Operating computerized switchboards and auxiliary equipment in electrical control centres to control the distribution and to regulate the flow of electrical power.
6. Monitoring power generation facilities to detect any unacceptable variances, dispatch appropriate respondents to correct problems and assisting field staff in testing for compliance with performance standards. 
7. Monitoring and visually inspecting displays, instruments, meters and alarms to ensure transformer and feeder loading and line voltages are within prescribed limits and to detect equipment failure, line disturbances and outages.

8. Supporting the Outage Management function by performing such daily tasks as organizing and keeping an accurate record of interruptions and transfers, and checking and filing records including Orders-To-Operate, Operator Summary, schematics, etc.
9. Supporting other Network Management functions such as Reliability Management and Load Management through the collection, entry and updating of statistical data as requested and the subsequent analysis of that data to determine causes and recommend improvements.
10. Replacing absent workers and augmenting contingent operations in emergencies by temporarily assuming the duties of any operating position on shift when necessary, including Team Leader when so assigned by a supervisor.
11. Answering telephone calls from internal & external customers regarding inquiries, service requests and trouble reports and dispatch respondents as appropriate.
12. To ensure that Health and Safety requirements are met by supporting and participating in regular Health and Safety meetings.
13. To perform other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications:
• Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology program or recognized equivalent.
• Journeyperson Municipal Electrical Operator Certificate or equivalent in progress
• Utility Work Protection Code certification 
• Demonstrated knowledge of System Control & Data Acquisition system, Customer Information System (CIS), Geographic Information System (Legacy). 
• Excellent analytical skills.
• Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office applications (Word & Excel & Access).
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Readily available for on-call/standby duty and emergency call-out.
• Must hold and maintain a valid Class G driver’s license.
• Willingness to work a rotating shift arrangement is essential
