Operations Supervisor

 

Niagara Peninsula Energy Inc. is seeking a highly qualified individual to join our management team in the position of Operations Supervisor. This position reports to the Director of Operations and is responsible for supervising the construction, operations and maintenance of NPEI’s electrical distribution system across both service territories and will be required to work out of the Niagara Falls and Smithville locations; some travel between locations will be required. 

The main duties and responsibilities for this position include:

  • Direct line personnel in construction and maintenance activities to ensure system reliability and safe and efficient production.
  • Review project plans and work requests to ensure work is planned appropriately and sufficient lead time is available.
  • Provide direction and technical guidance to crews during emergency and on-call situations and formulate plans to restore outages.
  • Complete required documentation for projects, regulatory requirements and safety issues.
  • Provide detailed reporting for all accidents and incidents within scope of responsibility.
  • Ensure projects are completed in accordance with applicable rules, regulations and regulatory requirements.
  • Review and approve OTO’s and ensure maps are up-to-date with equipment, crew locations and status.
  • Liaise with customers and internal stakeholders regarding concerns or safety issues related to upcoming projects.
  • Provide leadership for Occupational Health & Safety initiatives and promote a positive culture within the department for the OHMS.
  • Oversee and direct activities of contractors performing work for NPEI, e.g. tree trimming, inspections, hydro-vac, traffic control, etc.
  • Assist the Manager of Procurement & Facilities as well as the Senior Manager of Engineering & Operations in the overseeing and management of the departments as required. 

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Red Seal Powerline Technician certification
  • Requires 8 years of experience as a Powerline Technician within an electrical utility or similar organization
  • Class DZ licence
  • Advanced knowledge of overhead and underground distribution systems and power lineperson equipment
  • Advanced knowledge of the Utility Work Protection Code, IHSA Electrical Utility Safety Rules, ESA Distribution Safety Regulations (Ont. Reg. 22/04), environmental regulations and related codes, standards and regulations
