The Electrical Safety Authority of Ontario is seeking an experienced and effective electrical engineer to play a high impact role in the development and oversight of electrical distribution and installation safety. The Electrical Safety Engineer plays a crucial role in the development and interpretation of electrical distribution safety regulations, as well as electrical safety code in Ontario. In this role you will be a key consultant to distribution companies and contractors throughout the province on the interpretation and application of safety regulations. You will also play a key role in the development and amendment of the Code, providing advice to committees for the Canadian Electrical Safety Code.
About the Job
The Electrical Safety Engineer will provide interpretation and advice internally to ESA personnel and external stakeholders, including contractors, consultants, and electrical distribution companies on the application and interpretation of the Electrical Distribution Safety Regulation, Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC), and other associated codes and standards. The Electrical Safety Engineer plays a vital role not only to the ESA but also to the province of Ontario as they will be essential in providing technical support to the distributors of the province in areas such as safety standards, distribution system design, equipment safety standards, and inspection and audit practices and procedures.

About You
You are an experienced electrical engineer with the ability to sit on multiple technical committees and provide trusted guidance and support to internal members of your team as well as external stakeholders. Furthermore, you will have the following responsibilities:
Interpretation and Advice
Assist and advise Electrical Safety Authority personnel on the interpretation and application of the Electrical Distribution Safety Regulation and Ontario Electrical Safety Code to achieve consistency of interpretation across the province, proper inspection performance and procedures with respect to the electrical system's approval designs, installations and equipment.
Prepare engineering reports, directives, bulletins, and other documents for use by ESA personnel and external stakeholders.
Technical Support
Conduct engineering analysis of problems and produce engineering reports, directives and/or bulletins in consultation with the supervisor to resolve field problems. Receive request from supervisor to examine particular aspects of electrical installations or equipment. Consult with others advisors, managers, standards or certification organizations, equipment manufacturers, consultants, utility staff, individuals, provincial and other organizations. Apply the Electrical Distribution Safety Regulation, Ontario Electrical Safety Code, other relevant codes, standards or regulations, equipment standards, safety records and technical literature. Propose rationalized solution(s) to supervisor based on findings.
Compliance Monitoring
Develop, with the participation of ESA personnel and local distribution company and other stakeholders, guidelines for the inspection of distribution systems. Make recommendations to supervisor for the approval of such guidelines.
Regulation, Codes and Standards Development
Develop, maintain or update engineering safety standards, criteria, guides, methods and procedures. Receive assignments from Supervisor relating to these and/or identify potential problems, issues and opportunities. Discuss these with ESA operating personnel, users or others, as required, to ensure current principles, policies and practices are recognized. Prepare new or revised documents consistent with having acceptable safety, principles.
