Newmarket-Tay Power Distribution Ltd. (NT Power) delivers power with pride to almost 50,000 customers within the Town of Newmarket, Town of Midland and Tay Township. Headquartered in Newmarket, Ontario, NT Power has an additional office in Midland, Ontario, which is approximately one hour north of Newmarket along the shores of Georgian Bay.  

We require a motivated, collaborative individual to join our team as an Accounting Clerk, working in a team environment at our head office in Newmarket. 

Position Summary

This position reports to the Vice President, Finance and is responsible for preparing and recording financial transactions through the verification and posting of receipts while resolving discrepancies. The role requires good time-management skills to work effectively both independently and in groups and the ability to prioritize work while handling multiple tasks. The position has regular contact with customers, vendors and NT Power staff at all levels of the organization, therefore, the candidate must have excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintains the AR and AP master files, creating, updating and purging inactive vendor account files.
  • Prepares Accounts Payable (AP) invoices for processing, confirms authorization level(s), inputs AP data, runs reports (including cheques), enters processed vouchers into accounting system
  • Prepares AR documentation for adjustments related to NSF cheques and penalty / interest charges.
  • Maintains Job Cost closing process.
  • Prepares bank deposits.
  • Runs financial reports and maintenance routines within the Billing and General Ledger systems and assists with report distribution.
  • Enters data, runs reports, reconciles payments and answers general questions related to AR.
  • Composes general correspondence using NT Power pre-approved template letters and forms
  • Provides the finance management team with information as required.
  • Responds to telephone, email and in-person inquiries.
  • Inputs TimeSheet entries, inputs journal entries, reconciles EFT deposits
  • Maintains the filing system.
  • Acts as backup, as necessary, for other Finance staff. 

Compensation and benefits are as per the Collective Agreement. 

The successful candidate will have the following minimum qualifications essential to the position: 

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable experience or 3 years’ of recent experience performing relevant work preferably in a rate regulated industry.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office application (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.), and financial applications.
  • Attention to detail and competent in math and numeracy skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Education equivalent to full secondary school
  • Knowledge of NT Power policies, procedures and Standing Instructions is an asset.
  • Familiar with a variety of NT Power pre-approved templates for letter and forms, and their use would be an asset.
