The Town of Halton Hills, with a population of approximately 60,000, is a dynamic, amalgamated community within the Regional Municipality of Halton, consisting of two key urban centres, Georgetown and Acton; three hamlets – Glen Williams, Stewarttown, and Norval; and several smaller settlements, located 20 minutes north of the 401, west of Toronto. Halton Hills has long been recognised for its natural beauty, active agricultural community, high quality of life, and proximity to major centres, including Brampton, Mississauga, and Toronto. Halton Hills Hydro Inc. is a progressive electric distribution utility servicing the Town of Halton Hills, and is a subsidiary of the Halton Hills Community Energy Corporation. We are currently welcoming applications for the position of President and CEO. The position requires a creative, innovative, and accomplished leader of four corporations: 

  • Halton Hills Community Energy Corporation (Holding Company),
  • Halton Hills Hydro (electricity distribution for the Town of Halton Hills),
  • SouthWestern Energy Inc. (Construction contracting company), and
  • Quality Tree Service (Tree trimming service).  

Reporting directly to separate Boards of Directors, the President & CEO, will, while maintaining the organisations’ innovative culture, foster creativity, innovation, and relentless incrementalism; continue the collaborative relationships with the Municipality and industry partners; provide overall leadership, long range strategic planning, operation, and management of all four corporations. Internally, the position promotes the vision, mission, and values directly to employees and through the senior leadership team.

Specific accountabilities: 

  • Accountable for the safety, professional development and well-being of staff;
  • Maintain highest standards for public safety, reliability of supply, and protection of the environment;
  • Counsels and confers with the Board of Directors on all facets of business operations to provide leadership of the organization, excellent service to customers and a fair return to the Shareholder;
  • Advises the Board on financial, strategic and regulatory matters that may have a significant impact on the Company;
  • Identifies new technologies and approaches that could alter and advance the current business model(s);
  • Plans, prepares budgets, organizes operations and directs the affairs of the organization in alignment with the corporate vision and strategic plan;
  • Collaborates with direct reports to prepare annual capital and operating budgets and endorses the budgets that will be recommended to the Board of Directors;
  • Directs and oversees the day-to-day operations of the businesses, the conduct of employees and the provision of services to ensure services meet and exceed corporate goals;
  • Assumes overall responsibility for Occupational Health & Safety including ensuring roles, responsibilities and accountabilities are in place;
  • Maintains a positive image of the Corporation(s) by representing HHCEC and its Affiliate companies in the community through participation and involvement with economic and charitable organizations.

Key Qualifications

The President & CEO position requires an individual with proven leadership skills, high ethical standards with an optimum combination of the following: 

  • Professional Designation in Engineering, Business Administration or other related discipline, or the equivalent in a combination of education and experience;
  • Ten years of progressive and relevant work experience in the electrical or a related industry;
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse complex problems, adapt to new and rapidly changing situations, plan and organise the affairs of the Corporation(s) in alignment with the corporate strategic plan and the willingness to accept responsibility and make decisions;
  • Advanced conflict resolution and negotiations skills, and the ability to impact and influence to obtain optimal outcomes;
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively direct, motivate, and mentor management staff, deal with stakeholders in a courteous and tactful manner, and use advanced written and verbal communications to influence others;
  • Advanced knowledge of the Corporation(s) work protection codes, the E&USA rules, ESA Distribution Safety Regulations, IESO and OEB Codes and Regulations;
  • Expert knowledge of the electrical utility industry in the Province of Ontario;
  • Advanced knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements as it relates to individuals, the organisation and operational requirements;
  • Advanced understanding of risk identification and the development of mitigation strategies;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills in dealing with staff and public;
  • Broad knowledge of business principles and a good understanding of applicable Federal and Provincial laws.
