Warehouse and Facility Maintenance Assistant

We are seeking a qualified Warehouse and Facility Maintenance Assistant with excellent communication skills, collaborative attitude and strong commitment to safety, to join our Operations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing services and supporting the operations of Brantford Power and its shared services partner and tenant Energy+. The position is unionized (IBEW Local 636) and will be reporting to Manager of Warehouse and Facilities or a designate in the interim.

Main Responsibilities (Warehouse):

  • Operate warehouse equipment to receive and handle deliveries while ensuring the accuracy of quantity and quality of incoming deliveries.
  • Assist with requisitioning, allocating and issuing warehouse inventory based on bill of materials, work orders and verbal requests.
  • Use computer inventory management software to input/process/review/verify stock quantities and assist with material re-order process.
  • Assist with physical inventory count to ensure adequate material quantities are maintained and available on-hand.
  • Update inventory records appropriate to stores operation including personal protective equipment, safety clothing and equipment as required.
  • Ensure stores, garage and yard are maintained in a clean and secure work environment including adherence to health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and promote a safe and healthy work environment, and comply with corporate safety policies as well as applicable codes, such as the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Assist Operations Department with crew dispatching, arranging for cleanup of spills and minor administrative tasks. 

Main Responsibilities (Facilities):

  • Perform general housekeeping duties to maintain BPI worksites, shops and vehicles in a clean, tidy and safe state.
  • Assist Facilities Manager with cleaning grounds, organizing work areas, maintaining equipment and waste management.
  • Perform minor building maintenance functions within the building (change light bulbs, oil door hinges, install/remove keyboard trays, install signs, etc.)
  • Operate floor sweeper and landscaping equipment to perform yard maintenance and repairs including cutting grass, raking leaves, trimming bushes, spreading topsoil, seeding, installing sod, snow removal, salting, etc.
  • Fuel vehicles, top up fluids, record engine hour meter readings, inspect and maintain fire extinguishers.
  • Perform weekly building safety checks (spill kit, eye-wash station, etc.)
  • Conduct routine checks of properties and ensure fencing is in good repair.
  • Assist vehicle mechanic with inventory management, ordering parts, maintaining logs, other minor non-specialized tasks, as well as assist with safety related tasks in the mechanics shop.
  • Perform work in a safe manner in compliance with applicable legislation and corporate rules, procedures and policies. The incumbent must take an active role in promoting a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Assist Operations Department with loading poles, transformers & trailers (loading of cable).
  • Dip Fuel Tanks, keep records as required by TSSA, monitor fuel levels advise to re-order, perform regular safety inspection of the area and equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Other minor tasks (General)

  • Deliver material to jobsites, material pick-ups at suppliers, furniture relocation.
  • Repair minor damage to stockroom equipment and wash vehicles. 

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Secondary school graduation diploma consistent with a grade 12 level education.
  • Must be able to operate all stores handling equipment and maintain a valid Ontario Class ‘DZ’ driver’s license and Forklift Licence
  • Competent in use of personal computers and office software.
  • Knowledge of various jobs and tasks performed in an inventory environment.
  • Professional and courteous demeanor in dealing with all customers and staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Physical ability to work in the Warehouse environment.
  • Ability to remain organized in a fast paced, changing environment.
