POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Powerline Technician Training and Apprenticeship Consultant will be responsible for assessing the health and safety training needs and providing skills-based programs for high-risk work. The duties will include, but are not limited to scheduling, designing, delivering, recommending and evaluating training programs and course participants for clients within Ontario and, at times, nationally and internationally for the Infrastructure Health and Safety Association (IHSA). The Powerline Technician Training and Apprenticeship Consultant reports directly to the Manager, Powerline Apprenticeship and Training.

REQUIREMENT:                        this position and it will be a term and condition of continuing employment in this position that the individual’s permanent residence is within one hundred (100) kilometre radius of 21 Voyager Court South, Etobicoke, ON M9W 5M7.

SALARY:                                    10 ($110,732.55 - $130,242.07)

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Post-secondary education completion and skilled trade designation; Powerline Technician certification or Power Cable Technician certification or equivalent.
  • 10 years Journeyman Powerline Technician or Power Cable Technician certification or equivalent.
  • Able to obtain Interprovincial “Red Seal” designation preferred.
  • Currently certified in the Utility Work Protection Code.
  • Previous front line supervisory experience preferred.
  • Qualified as a 0-8 Ton mobile crane operator and/or Branch 2 Certified Hoisting Engineer – 339C.
  • First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) certifications.
  • Knowledge of program development, delivery and adult education principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of Health and Safety management systems, programs, services and current federal and provincial legislation.
  • Able to effectively operate a computer and applicable software along with other relevant technology equipment (audio/visual/smart board equipment, fall protection training equipment and other pertinent industry specific tools).
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint), internet and intranet software. Printer, photocopier, scanner, fax machine, iPhone.
  • Excellent communication skills to deal effectively with staff throughout the organization, external members, suppliers and government contacts (WSIB, MLTSD, HRSDC) to demonstrate new work methods, explore new programs, exchange information, transfer knowledge, assess the health and safety training needs of member and non-member firms to align with the WSIB, MLTSD, HRSDC prevention concepts and activities, and schedule, design, deliver and evaluate training programs within the sectors.
  • Creative, energetic, self-motivated and results-oriented.
  • Proven team player who is both flexible and adaptable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence, persuade and communicate with people at all levels within the organization and with local, regional and national stakeholders.
  • Analytical person to systematically break down complex issues related to assessing the health and safety training needs of member and non-member firms, and schedule, design, deliver and evaluate training programs.
  • Able to travel extensively by ground and/or air transportation within Ontario, nationally and internationally, and work flexible hours.
  • Valid Ontario (DZ) driver’s license.
  • Ability to maintain competency in legislated practical rescue sessions.
  • Demonstrate competency in many high voltage practical tasks in order to stay current with industry standards and maintain industry expertise.
  • 75% minimum interview score required for consideration.
