MANAGER FINANCIAL REPORTING

The Manager Financial Reporting provides an exciting opportunity for leading, learning, implementing changes, and cultivating relationships across multiple operating subsidiary companies including Canadian Niagara Power, Cornwall Electric, Algoma Power and Wataynikaneyap Power PM. FortisOntario is looking for an influential leader who understands the value of reporting to achieve financial outcomes. 

Key functions of this role:

  • Leading a team of finance professionals, this position will Develop and Manage the monthly financial close process including preparation of monthly Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE) & US GAAP reporting
  • Prepare financial statements, consolidations and support the completion of the annual audit
  • Develop and delivery of timely internal management reporting working in collaboration with the Company’s Operational and Administrative Managers
  • Oversee critical revenue and regulatory accounting responsibilities including priority regulatory filings to internal and external stakeholders
  • Manage key financial accounting and oversee departmental tasks including journal entry review and approval, banking and reconciliations, prepaids, inventory, accruals, intercompany balances, other assets and liabilities, internal and 3rd party reporting, and any associated troubleshooting
  • Manage the accounts payable function for FortisOntario Distribution and oversee the multiple payroll programs within the organization
  • Champion of the internal control framework to ensure operating effectiveness
  • Oversee the preparation of the corporation’s annual tax filings
  • Provide key financial expertise to the company and respond to other informational requests received, as well as other duties as reasonably assigned 

What makes you a successful candidate?

  • Bachelor of Business Administration degree or a related discipline, including courses in auditing, accounting and/or finance
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) in good standing
  • 5 to 15 years of progressive experience in financial reporting
  • Minimum 3 years of experience managing a team
  • Strong understanding of ASPE, US GAAP an asset
  • Experience with and knowledge of the deregulated Ontario electricity market would be an asset
  • Advanced Excel user, SAP experience is an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proactive with a passion for continuous improvement
  • Highly organized with a keen attention to detail, able to commit to an increased work volume on a periodic basis, and adaptable to changing work priorities and tight deadlines
  • Must hold and maintain a valid Ontario “G” license with a clean driving abstract, background check required prior to offer extensions 

This opportunity is located at our corporate office, located in beautiful Fort Erie, and reports to the Director, Finance of Canadian Niagara Power (CNPI). Remote working on a partial basis would be considered.
