Manager Operational Technology (Hydro)

 

Reporting to the Director Hydro Distribution, the successful applicant will be responsible for leading, managing, organizing, monitoring, and maintaining the Hydro SCADA system with a focus on continuous improvement, reliability, efficiencies and reducing operational costs. The Manager Operational Technology (Hydro) will seek to grow the system and be responsible for developing, leading, managing, and implementing a program to automate ENWIN’s distribution grid. This position will also be responsible to anticipate the needs for increased levels of grid management due to the increasing complexity resulting from more generation and managing loads such as electric vehicle chargers attaching to the grid. 

The primary responsibilities include but are not limited to: developing and supporting strategic plans, initiatives and departmental goals in collaboration with the Director; investigating, justifying and implementing solution, hardware or software for the system; SCADA/automation/OT staff oversight; training and development of direct report(s) and other staff; budget creation and monitoring; troubleshooting and resolving system issues; develop, implement & maintain an asset management plan for OT assets; fostering interdepartmental cooperative initiatives; driving process and administrative improvements and liaising with Hydro One, the IESO, generators, micro-grid operators, and other LDC’s; managing the operation of the Operational Technology division to ensure that the automation support systems used by the Control Room remain operational and that the systems function as intended on a 24/7 basis; investigating, proposing and where appropriate, justifying improvements(e.g. FLISR, ADMS etc.) to ENWIN existing SCADA and OMS systems as well as any additional Operational Technology, such as DER & EV load connections etc. 

The successful applicant must have the following skills and competencies:

  • University degree in Engineering (Electrical or similar), Computer Science, or comparable blend of education and experience.
  • P. Eng., Degree in Business Administration, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering or equivalent is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of five (5) years similar experience
  • In-depth knowledge of the operation of Survalent SCADA and Responder or Survalent OMS systems including addition of devices, creation of displays, alarm management, documentation, security control, etc.
  • Knowledge of ICCP (Inter-Control Centre Protocol), DNP3 (Distributed Network Protocol 3) and modbus protocols.
  • Working knowledge of communications through fibre, 900 MHz serial and ethernet radios including radio hubs, cable modems, cellular modems, Aruba and other VPN devices.
  • Working knowledge of protection relays, transformer station relays and connected equipment, faulted circuit indicators, inverter systems, SEL 3530 RTAC devices (Schweitzer Engineering Limited, Real-Time Automation Controller), as well as various branded switch and recloser controllers.
  • Working knowledge of SCADA servers, firewalls, UPS systems, as well as various cyber security devices and software.
  • Construction and safe work practices including all applicable legislation (OHSA, IHSA, and all relevant rules and regulations). Work Protection Code or contractual operating agreements with Hydro One, IESO, and major customers.
  • Good working knowledge of computer systems (MS Office).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to lead and manage, mentor and motivate staff.
  • Ability to foster strong relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Strong customer service orientation, both internal and external.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to make timely and effective decisions in consultation with others.

Salary Range for Qualified Candidates: $103,337 – $114,818
