DESIGN TECHNICIAN

Role:

The Design Technician works as part of a team to develop plans for electrical distribution and telecommunications outside plant networks. This position blends office-based design and drafting work with regular opportunities to conduct field survey work. Successful applicants will have strong AutoCAD skills, combined with a dedication to producing quality work.

Key Duties:

• Use manual drawing skills (AutoCAD) to create Electrical Distribution and Telecommunication drawings prepared by Engineering Technicians and Engineers
• Request necessary landbase and underground utilities
• Develop design layouts in AutoCAD
• Prepare drawings for construction, with high precision and as per scale, incorporating all details
• Make necessary changes and edits to drawings and provide drafting for “as built” drawings
• Maintain established technical and aesthetic design standards and specifications
• Use survey equipment and applicable forms to collect field data (incl. cable heights, clearances, pole profiles, surroundings etc.) as required by project scope

Technical Requirements/Qualifications:

• Post-secondary diploma/degree Electrical, Civil, or Architectural Technician/Technologist (or comparable program) or equivalent experience
• 0-5+ years of related experience
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Microstation
• Strong math skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Field work- requires use of own vehicle
