Position

An experienced Engineering Technician, Technologist or Engineer in Training (EIT) with 3+ years in a design or consulting role, you will be responsible for taking the lead on small to medium sized projects, provide mentorship and guidance to junior design staff, and collaborate with the rest of the team on projects and work to develop new processes and approaches to improve efficiency and quality of everyone’s work.

You will work with the team and our clients to perform field verification, perform analysis of overhead and underground systems using engineering software, prepare designs and construction plans for projects using AutoCAD and MicroStation, and provide on-site support during construction as required.

Job Responsibilities

  • Field verification of existing electrical infrastructure within project areas to accurately survey existing conditions.
  • Prepare design drawings in AutoCAD and MicroStation. Typical drawings include cover sheets, key maps, electrical schematics, electrical plan layouts, pole and equipment installation details, and removal drawings.
  • Prepare base plans using various sources such as georeferenced imagery, GIS landbase, and surveyed AutoCAD mapping.
  • Prepare conceptual designs for review and discussion purposes.
  • Prepare detailed design drawings for review, pricing, and tendering purposes.
  • Work directly with Engineer for completion of Issued for Construction drawings.
  • Participate in overall project coordination and QAQC activities.
  • Continued professional development through participation in internal and external learning opportunities.
  • Perform other related duties.

Key Qualifications 

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant design experience.
  • Engineering Technology diploma, Engineering Degree, or equivalent.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD or MicroStation and drafting practice.
  • Detail and quality-oriented approach. 
  • Must work well both individually and in team environment.
  • Previous experience working with an electrical utility is an asset.
  • Previous experience in PLS-CADD, SPIDAcalc modelling is an asset.
  • Previous experience in photometric analysis (PMA) using software (i.e. AGi32) is an asset.
