Oshawa Power maintains 1000 km of overhead and underground distribution lines within a 150 km2 service territory, operated at 44 and 13.8 kV, supplied by 9 distribution and 3 transmission substations. POSITION SUMMARY: 

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Planning, Analysis, & Reporting the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the unregulated operations from a financial and accounting perspective through month end close activities, as well as the management team decision process through presentation of financial information and providing reliable information and analysis, on a timely basis. 

Responsibilities & Duties: 

  • Assist with budget, forecast, planning, and analysis related activities, including but not limited to: preparation of forecast and budget templates, monthly departmental reports, and analysis of budget to actual variances
  • Prepare month end journal entries
  • Reconcile balance sheet account balances on a monthly or quarterly basis
  • Prepare monthly billings to clients and ensure proper accounting of purchases in compliance with policies
  • Prepare & maintain monthly financial reports for the unregulated companies, as well as by project/investment/business line
  • Support continuous improvement and productivity initiatives within the overall financial function (capital planning, supply chain and finance)
  • Ensure compliance to legislative, regulatory, accounting and Health & Safety policies, procedures and standards
  • Respond and resolve day-to-day accounting related queries/problems from various departments
  • Assess and document accounting processes and procedures
  • Support new software implementations and upgrades
  • All other duties as assigned 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or similar discipline
  • Enrollment in the CPA (Chartered Professional Accountants) program considered an asset
  • 3-5 years of Finance/Accounting experience in relevant environment or related field, with working knowledge of IFRS accounting guidelines
  • Demonstrated experience with accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and work with and across various business units within the organization
  • Advanced Excel skills are essential
  • Attention to detail and excellent analytical, reasoning and time management skills
  • Ability to perform detailed reconciliations and numerical analysis
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills with the ability to maintain professional and effective working relationships
  • Commitment to safety, teamwork, respect in the workplace and continued improvement of processes and procedures
  • Self-starter; highly motivated and able to work independently; asks for help when required; willing to learn and adapt to new technologies; flexible when situations change; able to work in an ambiguous environment; a good work ethic with a positive approach to work and co-workers
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
